How not to gain weight over the winter?

Winter is a cozy time when a woman is tempted to barricade herself at home, surrounded by pillows and rolls, eat sweet desserts instead of berries and vegetables and dumplings and pies instead of light salads.

And so, in two or three months we have put an end to the efforts to maintain our figure that we make throughout the year. Goodbye lightness and slimness, hello extra pounds, swelling and drowsiness. Today we will tell you how to overcome the habit of warming yourself with cakes and sweets and spend the chilly winter days in ways which will benefit one’s figure.

  1. Hearty breakfast

A balanced breakfast will provide vivacity and energy for the whole day. This meal will help you avoid unhealthy snacks and overeating in the evening. Fats, proteins, complex carbohydrates, fiber - all these vital elements should be included in the first meal. Therefore, tea and cookies will not work at all. Scrambled eggs with fat sheep’s tail, salad, whole grain bread, bulgur with vegetables and chicken, buckwheat, cheese, sour cream - try to accustom yourself to such dishes for breakfast and you will feel a huge surge of energy throughout the day.

  1. Starvation diets are not for winter

There is no need to go to extremes and follow strict diets in winter. Severe dietary restrictions may lead to the exacerbation of chronic diseases, disruptions in the menstrual cycle, hair loss, constant weakness and deterioration of the immune system. During the cold season, the body has to constantly resist the attacks of viruses and bacteria and, if it is deprived of the necessary vitamins and nutrients obtained from food, it will not feel sweet at all.

  1. Use spices

In winter, one really wants something aromatic, spicy and warming. Take advantage of the moment and generously flavour your dishes with turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and anise. These spicy plants significantly speed up metabolism, promote weight loss and improve digestion.

  1. Eat soup

A rich soup is the best dish for winter. A hearty, warming broth will not only relieve hunger for a long time, but will also serve as excellent nourishment for the whole body. Bone broth is an elixir of youth for women, because it contains collagen, which is so necessary to keep the skin beautiful and elastic.

  1. Drink water

In winter, unlike in summer, we experience thirst less often and completely forget about our body’s need for clean drinking water. When the temperature drops, cold winds begin to blow, the air becomes dry and our bodies receive less moisture than in the warm season. Control your drinking regime; this will help avoid many health problems.

  1. Get enough sleep

Due to shorter daylight hours and less exposure to light on the retina, our bodies produce more melatonin, which is why we feel sleepy in winter. Try to adjust your routine so that you go to bed an hour earlier than in the summer.

  1. Start your day with a workout

Light workouts in the morning will help you wake up from hibernation and make your body work more actively. A good alternative to regular exercise is a brisk walk. Dress warmly, choose comfortable shoes and hit the road despite the season. Every morning you will see how the landscape around you changes, how the city or village wakes up. Change routes, increase the number of steps taken and enjoy every moment.

Let the Soul Grow

Science surprisingly confirms the wisdom revealed 1,500 years ago in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. I was given another reason to reflect on this when reading an excerpt from a lecture by Carl Gustav Jung, the founder of analytical psychology.   The psychologist asks a question that...
