Why is it forbidden to visit fortune tellers?

Why is it forbidden to visit fortune tellers?

Visiting fortune tellers and believing them are not allowed due to the prohibition mentioned in the strictest form in the Prophet’s hadith, “Whoever goes to a fortune teller and believes what he says, has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad.”

Regarding the second part of the issue (can one believe them?), a hadith narrated by Imam al Bukhari says, “Some people asked the Messenger of Allah about fortune tellers, and he replied, ‘You cannot believe their words’. Then they said ‘O Messenger of Allah , sometimes they tell us something and it is true.’ The Prophet e replied, “That is a word of the truth that they learn from the djinn which he whispers into the ear of his familiar but they mix a hundred lies with it.’” (Narrated by Al Bukhari and Muslim)

A Muslim should not question and inquire about what is prescribed for him. He should be content with his destiny and not go deep into this topic. Rather he should try to live his life following the instructions of the Almighty, since the Prophet Muhammad said, “If people are talking about the predestination of the Almighty Allah be quiet.”

But, alas, in our troubled life some people, forgetting that there is no strength and power except from Allah, somehow immediately believe in the power of fortune tellers and other cheaters. Numerous healers and clairvoyants have taken advantage of people’s ignorance and have invented hundreds of methods of deception: fortune telling by hand, by coffee grounds, by the stars, promising to heal and save from all kinds of human troubles.

And the most surprising thing is that ordinary people succumb to this deception. What brings a person to fortune tellers? What makes a person overstep religious prohibition and turn to the “help of soothsayers”? Nothing but ignorance brings a person to fortune tellers! In difficult situations one need to rely only on the Almighty and sincerely ask Him to rid one of troubles. When someone faces problems in life and does not know how to act he should turn to imams, alims and Islamic scholars for advice. No one can answer and help with advice in such situations better than them.
