PLANTS IN THE KORAN AND SUNNAH

PLANTS IN THE KORAN AND SUNNAH

Allah says (meaning), “He increases in creation what He wills.” (Sura Fatir, ayah 1). When we look around us we see the greatness of God.

The height of the tallest tree in the world is 112 metres. It is in the forests of California in the United States of America.

Scientists believe that age of this tree is more than a thousand years, the diameter of its trunk is more than three metres and it looks like a building consisting of 37 floors.

But someone may say, where is the miracle in that creature? Here we have to ask a question, how can the water reach the height of 112 metres? What kind of pumps is this tree using? And from where does that tree get the energy needed to feed itself for more than a thousand years?

Almighty Allah provided the suitable methods to sustain the life of that tree and the life of all creatures. The Almighty provided a very simple rule, that is the surface tension of water, as without this rule all plants would die. Water has a tensile strength and it is able to climb through plant vessels to reach the top of the tree. There is another way to feed that tree by water which is by withdrawing water from the air!

The Almighty is the One Who guaranteed livelihood for His creatures and He had provided all the methods to keep them alive. So, can Almighty Allah forget a man who is asking and supplicating Him? Allah says (meaning), “And so many a moving (living) creature carries not its own provision! Allah provides for it and for you. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knowig.” (Sura Al-‘Ankabut, ayah 60).

Plant feels pain

Recently, American scientists proved that a plants can feel pain and talk with other plants, as it secretes a sedative material when it feels pain also warns other plants in case of danger by secreting a special material!

Researchers in the US airspace control center were astonished when they discovered that ill plants produce a chemical material like aspirin (which can be detected in the air around the plant); this material is a part of an immune system to protect them.

This discovery may help farmers to observe that material to identify whether their plants are in good health or not.

Untill now, farmers have had no method to recognize the health of plants except by their naked eye (e.g. by dead leaves).

The researcher Thomas Carl says that unlike humans who take aspirin to reduce a fever, plants are able to produce its own aspirin by secreting proteins to strengthen its biochemical defense system, so that it can reduce the infection.

At the same time, researchers confirmed that plants in laboratories produce a kind of aspirin called methyl salicylate. Some researchers had launched a measuring system to observe the secreted materials from plants as an observation for the environment in a farm near to California and they found in their surroundings an amount of this methyl salicylate.

In similar studies, they found that edible plants for animals produce chemical materials which can be detected by other plants nearby to warn them of danger nearby. Also they found the same material in the air of a farm that was subject to changes in the weather (cold at night and then hot by day).

Allah supported leaves with some sensitive tools to feel what is happening around the. Also plants can be affected by words of God, although there are no real scientific researches concerning that matter but I believe that plants can be affected by the Koran and that its power increases their growth. There are some researches which confirm that plants be affected by sounds but until now these researches are not documented.

Allah is the One Who taught these plants to secrete that material when feeling with pain. Who supported these plants through those precise machines to secrete chemicals to warn others?

Allah said that everything is glorifying Him. He says (meaning), “The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His Praise. But you understand not their glorification. Truly, He is ever Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving.” (Sura Al-Isra’, ayah 44). Also Allah in another verse tells us that everything speaks - even our skins - on the Day of Resurrection. Allah says (meaning), “They will say: ‘Allah has caused us to speak as He causes all things to speak: and He created you the first time, and to Him you are made to return.’” (Sura Fussilat, ayah 21). This verse was confusing to skeptics but now and after that discovery it considered as a proof that the Koran is sincere and that it is divinely and not humanly made.

Plants are very smart creatures!

One of the new discoveries about plants world reveals their ability to defend themselves against insects or danger.

Some atheists doubt the Almighty’s saying (meaning), “And there is not a thing but glorifies His praise. But you understand not their glorification.” (Sura Al-Isra’, ayah 44). How can a creature, such as plant, speak and glorify Almighty Allah’s praise? That is why the Almighty directed western scientists to study plants for long time - and the results were astonishing!

  1. Plants produce sounds: this is a new result scientists have discovered. They have proved that the DNA inside each cell vibrates and produces sounds that we do not understand but can be measured and recorded via accurate devices. This sound could represent glorification to Almighty Allah.
  2. Plants have “brains” and “nervous systems” that are used to protect them! When certain German scientists observed plants, they found that the tobacco plant releases toxic nicotine when insects start eating its leaves and forces them to escape!

Scientists have recently discovered that plants release toxic products or vicious smells to dispell danger when insects come to eat their leaves. Scientists are confused about the source of information the plants obtain and their ability to produce toxic products. They are, with no doubt, smart creatures and not objects as we used to think!

  1. In other plants, scientists performed experiments by allowing insects to have access to eat leaves of certainplants. The results were astonishing and unpredictable! These plants produced an aromatic product which attracted bigger insects! Why does a plant does produce such a scent while in a defendsive situation?

The amazing thing is that, through this smell, bigger insects recognize the presence of smaller insects, so they come and eat them and protect the plants from them.

The plant produces an aroma product that attracts bigger insects such as ants. Through this smell, ants recognize that there is a good meal on the surface of the leaf, then quickly approach the small insects, attack them and eat them. Hence, it protects the plants from the small insects.

How did the plants learn them all these specific techniques, how did they learn them and who created these capabilities? With no doubt, Almighty Allah who said (meaning), “He Who gave to each thing its form and nature, then rightly guided it.” (Sura Ta-Ha, ayah 50).
