The skin

The human’s skin consists of several layers. God supplied each layer with a definite structure that helps in protecting the human and sensation of heat and coolness. Therefore, the lower layer of the skin contains the nerves, blood passes in it and it is responsible for pain and the sensation of heat.

On the Day of Resurrection, God will torture the disbelievers and burn their skins and then He will create for them new skins so as to continue the punishment. God, be He exalted, says (meaning), “Surely! Those who disbelieved in Our ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall burn in fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for other skins so that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allah is Ever Most, Powerful, All-Wise.” (Sura An-Nisa, ayah 56)

Brain and heart

God has created for us the brain and the heart to thank Him for all these graces and to think about the universe and God’s creatures. Therefore, the brain contains over millions of million nerve cells that work in a wonderful order. The heart is a muscle that pumps blood to all the body parts. In it there is the centre of mind, thinking and belief. To thank God for His graces, we have to use these graces in worship and thinking of Koran because the heart is a grace from God. As for those who do not read the Koran, do not perform the prayers and are far from God, they do not understand what God says and we should not be like them. God, be He exalted, says (meaning), “They have hearts wherewith they understand not.” (Sura Al-Araf, ayah 179)

The forelock

Scientists have recently discovered that a significant activity occurs in the upper front part of the brain (forelock) when the man lies or make specific errors. Therefore, scientists have decided that the centre of lying and error in humans is in the upper front part of the brain, which is called the frontal lobe. God, be He exalted, says (meaning), “Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock - a lying, sinful forelock!” (Sura Al-Alaq, ayat 15-16)

The Koran described the upper front part of the human brain (forelock) as having two properties, lying and error. It was proved for doctors recently the relation between this region and lying and error in humans, they had no knowledge of that at the time of the descent of this ayah. Therefore, this ayah is considered to be one of the signs of the miraculous nature of the Holy Koran and that it is a book that does not contradict empirical science.

My Forelock is in Your Hands

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) says, (“O my God, I am your servant son of your male servant and female servant, my forelock is in your hands, passing in me your rule, fair on me your judgment, I ask You by each name You called Yourself or You wrote in Your book or You taught to one of Your creatures or You hid for Yourself, to let the Koran be the spring of my heart and the light of my sight and the departure of my sorrow.”

He said, “No one ever says these words when he is sad but God removes his sadness and replaces it with happiness.” So the people asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) if we have to learn these words? He replied, “Yes, who heard them should learn them.” (Narrated by Ibn Hibban and Imam Ahmed Bin Massoud)

This hadith confirms the importance of the forelock for supplication and healing, so what did the new medical researches discover regarding what scientists call the front part of the brain?

Scientists have found that the forelock or the frontal part of the brain grows during faith when the man lives in a state of integration with special beliefs, but in case of bad practices and disturbances in faith and not believing in something (i.e., atheism), this region “erodes” by time and the number of brain cells in it decreases and it becomes smaller. Thus, psychological disorders amongst these people increase as do their anxiety and frustration and perhaps leading them to commit suicide!

Scientists have also found that religion and faith are very important in the treatment of mental disorders, diseases and healing because the belief in healing is itself half the cure! New experiments done on the brain using magnetic resonance imaging have proved that when a person lies, his brain works more thus it needs more energy and this means that truthfulness saves in energy and in brain work.

This hadith certifies the greatness of Islam because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) resigned his forelock to Almighty God, and it was proved that the forelock is the center of decision-making and faith therefore he demanded from God to look after this forelock.

Forelock and self confidence

Many researches have proved that the human’s forelock is a very important area that affects our self-confidence. Let us contemplate.

Scientists believe that this area is responsible for leadership and self-confidence.

God the Almighty says by the tongue of prophet Hud (meaning), “I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving (living) creature but He has grasp of its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth).” (Sura Hud, ayah 56)

It means that anyone who submits his forelock to God the Almighty by trusting Him is definitely on the right path and all of his or her decisions will be right ones.
