Earth’s Rotation

It is a scientific fact that the earth rotates round its own axis in a circular motion and that its speed at the equator is about 1,670 km per hour, a speed that is faster than that of sound which is 1,200 km per hour, and yet we do not feel such rotation.

Allah, the Exalted says in the holy Koran, “Thou seest the mountains and thinkest them firmly fixed: but they shall pass away as the clouds pass away: (such is) the artistry of Allah, who disposes of all things in perfect order: for He is well acquainted with all that ye do.” (Sura An aml, ayah 88)

In addition to rotating round its axis, the earth rotates round the sun very fast, more than 100,000 km per hour. In other words, the earth rotates round itself one full rotation every day and rotates round the sun one full rotation every year and it also rotates along with the solar group round the centre of the galaxy, completing one rotation in more than 200,000,000 years.

Let us contemplate the following ratios concerning these rotations; a day, a year, 200 million years.

What is more is that the entire galaxy rotates in an enormous orbit whose end is known by no one except for Allah, the Omniscient;

Almighty Allah says in the holy Koran, “It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law).” (Sura Ya Sin, ayah 40)

Such facts prove the might of Allah, the Great; all glory to Allah.

Zones of earth

The length of the earth’s greatest zone is about 12,756 km along the Equator, and the length of the smallest zone is 12,713 km through the two poles. It is worth mentioning that geologists say that the zones of the earth differ from point to another on the surface of earth.

Also it is the same concerning zones inside the earth as the deepest point ever reached by man is 12 km in the oceans, can man reach a depth of 12,000 km?

A journey to the nucleus of earth is practically impossible because of the huge pressure and the high temperature.

Almighty Allah says, “O assembly of jinns and men! If you have power to pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass (them)! But you will never be able to pass them, except with authority (from Allah).” (Sura Ar Rahman, ayah 33).

Consider this holy ayah attentively, as Almighty Allah Almighty tells us that there the earth has various zones of earth not only one. Who told our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) this scientific fact 1,400 years ago? Is not this clear evidence that the Koran is not human-made and is descended from Almighy Allah?

Humans are programmed to live on earth

A new study has confirmed that humans were created to live on earth and that there is an impossibility to live in space on any other planet, because the immune system is negatively affected by the absence of gravity.

Immortality has been a dream of humanity for long time but no one had achieved that dream, as death is a strict law, as God says, “Everyone is going to taste death, and we shall test you with evil and with good. And to us you will be returned.” (Sura AlAnbiya, ayah 35). Being in space has also been a dream of humans but that dream was achieved. On the other hand, the dream of living outside earth in space will not be achieved. God, be He exalted, says, “Thereof (the earth) we created you, and into it we shall return you, and from it we shall bring you out once again.” (Sura Ta Ha, ayah 55)

A group of Swiss scientists discovered that the absence of gravity has a negative effect on certain cells of the immune system, as the functions of these cells may stop or the body may lose control over it, which may facilitate infections by some diseases.

Space biologists confirm that absence of gravity for long time causes nausea and swelling of the face due to the disorders of blood circulation and also causes a lessening of the proper ratio of calcium in bones. The absence of gravity leads to difficulty in sleeping which causes imbalance in the brain and difficulty in urination.

Professor Oliver Olrich, a specialist in the biotechnology of space and head of the research team at the Institute of Anatomy at the University of Zurich, has confirmed these results and also said that they have reached these results through simulation experiments for the absence of gravity in space.

The negative effect is not limited to the immune system but covers the entire body. The research team concentrated on the cells of the immune system in the brain, as it becomes so affected by the absence of gravity which impacts the brain and facilitates its infection by viruses.

During a weightlessness experiment, he confirmed that pilots cannot stay for long time in mobile space stations between planets for research purposes: NASA and the European Space Agency intend to launch a spacecraft that will carry pilots who will stay for many years in space. The immune cells of the brain provide an early warning of still uncalculated dangers.

The new challenge for the research team is to find out what causes the damage in the cells of the immune system. Professor Oliver believes that the secret behind this is a component of the cell itself, which is somehow affected by changes in gravity.

Scientists have thus realised the importance of gravity for the continuation of life on earth and also that life outside our planet is impossible. Despite developments in science, there are many secrets of life which are still unclear to scientists. Professor Olrich confirms that in spite of the advanced development of science, some phenomena remain without explanation, especially those related to plants, animals and humans.

How can we read this scientific study?

Each progress in science means more approach to certain facts met with in the Koran. God, be He exalted, says, “Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein many a contradiction.” (Sura An Nisa, ayah 82).

Here we can see what scientists confirm about the impossibility of living outside the earth.

The Koran has told us about this, as God says, “Allah said: Get down, one of you is an enemy to the other [i.e. Adam, Hawwa’ (Eve), and Shaitan (Satan)]. On earth will be a dwelling-place for you and enjoyment for a time. He said: Therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (i.e. resurrected).” (Sura Al Araf, ayat 24-25)

In another ayah, God, be He exalted, reminds us with His graces which He made earth suitable for life and He designed mankind to live only on it.

He says, “Allah, it is He who has made for you the earth as a dwelling place and the sky as a canopy, and has given you shape and made your shapes good (looking) and has provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord: so blessed be Allah, the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists).” (Sura Ghafir, ayah 64)

Contemplate the phrase “the earth as a dwelling place”, which is indication of the role of gravity in the stability of humans on earth, and that without this gravity life would have long disappeared. Thanks be to God for this grace.

God says, “See you not (O men) that Allah has subjected for you whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, and has completed and perfected His Graces upon you, (both) apparent (i.e. Islamic monotheism, and the lawful pleasures of this world, including health, good looks, etc.) and hidden [i.e. one’s faith in Allah (of Islamic monotheism) knowledge, wisdom, guidance for doing righteous deeds, and also the pleasures and delights of the Hereafter in Paradise]? Yet of mankind is he who disputes regarding Allah without knowledge or guidance or a Book giving light!” (Sura Luqman, ayah 20)
