The daughter cried after her father’s words

The daughter cried after her father’s words

One day, a young girl turned to her father with reproach: “Why do you limit me so often? Do not you trust me?”

Her voice sounded with a note of resentment, and her gaze searched for an answer that could explain these constant prohibitions and rules.

Her father looked at her silently, as if thinking about how best to explain what she could not yet understand. Finally, he said: “Come, I will show you.”

They left the house into the dark, moonless night. Thick darkness reigned around, and one could not even see the path under one’s feet. The father took out two lanterns. One was large, with a bright light, and the other was small, emitting only a weak light.

He handed the small lantern to his daughter, and kept the large one for himself.

“Take this lantern”, - he said, “and tell me, can you see the road?”

The girl looked closely at the dim light that illuminated only a few steps ahead.

“Yes, I can see it, but only very close to me. Everything else is swallowed up by the darkness.”

The father nodded. “Okay. Now go ahead. But be careful.”

He remained standing, holding his lantern in his hands. The girl took a few hesitant steps, but the further she went, the more the impenetrable darkness surrounded her. The small light of her lantern was weak and alarming. She stopped, turned around and said: “Daddy, I cannot go any further. I cannot see anything! I am scared.”

At that moment, the father came closer. The light of his large lantern instantly dispersed the darkness around, illuminating the entire path along which the girl was walking.

“You see, my dear,” he said softly, “your lantern is your youth, your still small experience. It allows you to see only the very nearest, and that is enough to take small steps. But my light is my knowledge, my wisdom, the years I have lived, and my love for you. It illuminates much further and helps you notice what you cannot see now.”

He looked at her tenderly and continued: “I am not limiting you because I do not trust you. I just want to walk next to you so that my light can help you see more until you become stronger and your own light becomes stronger.”

The girl felt the warmth of her father’s love fill her heart. Tears flowed from her eyes from the overwhelming emotions, and she whispered faintly: “Thank you, Dad. I am so happy that your light is always next to me.”

The father smiled back. “And I will always light your path as long as you need it.”

That night, the girl realized: her father’s care is not chains, but a shield that protects her on the path to independence.
