Defense of Islamic doctoral degrees in Dagestan

Among the foreign members of the Council there were: Abdurazzaq al Saadi, Rector, Iraqi Islamic University (Iraq), Hani Shamsudin, Professor, Al Azhar University (Egypt); Muhammad Sharif al Sawwav, Rector, Ahmad Kaftaru University (Syria); Muhammad Wahbiy Suleiman, Head, Doctoral Studies, Ahmad Kaftaru University (Syria); Gazi Hunayna and Zuheir al Jouaid, (Lebanon, Beirut); Ibrahim bin Rashid al Mureyhiy, Chief Justice of Bahrain; Karim Ifraq, Chairman, Islamic Public Organization, Paris (France) and Husamuddin al Farfour, Rector, Biladu Sham University (Syria). Due to the coronavirus pandemic they took part in the meeting of the Dissertation Council via the Internet.

Professors Magomedsalikhov, Buttaeva, Gamidullaev, Saygidov were assigned as the academic advisers of the doctoral degree applicants.

Among the first Dagestanis who defended dissertations and received the degrees of Doctors of Islamic Sciences were mostly lecturers at Dagestan Islamic University and the Dagestan Humanitarian Institute: Ahmad Haji Isaev thesis topic, “Usury (Riba) in the Context of Socioeconomic Problems of Society: History and Modernity”; Isenbulat Yahyaev thesis topic, “Kalamic Heritage in Arabic language works”; Rashid Alimuradov thesis topic, “Legal Aspects of the Koran: Theological Analysis of Worship”; Gazimagomed Abakarov thesis topic, “The Composition “Bahrual muhit fi usuli al fiqh” (Allencompassing sea of foundations of Islamic law) of Imam Badruddin Muhammad al Zarkashi in the Process of Development of Muslim Doctrine (Theological and Textological Aspects).”

According to the decision of the Council for the Defense of Doctoral Dissertations, all applicants were awarded the degree of Doctor of Islamic Sciences. It marked a new phase of development of higher Islamic education in the republic, allowing Dagestan Muslims to obtain Islamic doctoral degrees without travelling abroad.
