A healer for the soul

A healer for the soul

A healer for the soul

The Almighty Lord created man in need of someone - from the moment of birth to old age.

At the beginning of his life, he is under the care of his parents, especially his mother. Then, starting from the nursery, kindergarten, school, he is under the supervision of educators, teachers who try to cultivate a good character in him and to give him the education necessary for him throughout his life. After finishing school, he enters a college or institute, where he is educated by teachers, specialists in various fields of science.

Thus, we are convinced that in any field of activity a teacher, a mentor is needed, because overcoming obstacles to achieve high goals cannot be done without a sensitive, experienced, competent teacher.

Moving on to our topic of a person’s path of spiritual perfection, cleansing the heart from diseases of the soul, such as envy, showing off, love of the worldly, pride and the like, a doctor is needed, since he is sometimes powerless to independently find a cure for elementary diseases of the body. A person definitely cannot do without someone who will lead him along the path of spiritual education and improvement to the great goal - the satisfaction of Almighty Allah.

We see the fruits of a tree that has grown in a field without care, and the fruits that of a tree in a well-tended garden. A person who tries to improve himself alone is like a fruit-bearing tree growing in a field without anyone’s care.

There is an ayah in the Koran with the following meaning: “O you who believe! Fear Allah ﷻ and be with the God-fearing, righteous people!” (Sura At-Tawba, ayah 119). That is, with those who will lead you to piety.

In this ayah, the Almighty not only calls us to piety but also indicates that one should be to be close to people who are truthful in their faith, such as prophets and righteous people. “Indeed, scholars are the heirs of the prophets.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood, At-Tirmidhi).

During the time of the Prophet, the companions tried to be in the company of the Messenger of God all the time; in this they found spiritual perfection and the grace of the Almighty. And in our time, when the Beloved of the Almighty is not among us, we must stay in the company of the heirs of the Prophet - true scholars, ulama, whose words correspond to their actions and way of life. Such are spiritual mentors, true murshids, sheikhs (teachers) of the tariqats.

In conclusion, we will quote the words of the great scholar Ibnu Hajar al-Haytami, who noted in his book “Tuhfat ul-Muhtaj sharh al-Minhaj”: “…The science of “tasawwuf”, being the most perfect science, is basically aimed at cleansing the soul and body of everything harmful and decorating them with spiritual perfection.”

We wish all of us spiritual perfection under the sensitive education of a spiritual mentor who will lead us to sincere worship of the Almighty Lord and His pleasure. Amin!
