Istikhara (A Prayer Seeking God’s Guidance)

This is a brain MRI (magnetic resonance image) while praying and we can see how the frontal region or forelock is active.

Researchers have recently found that the upper frontal part of the brain is the region responsible for making decisions and becomes active during praying and worshiping God. If you want to make a successful decision, you should worship God and pray with humility and then make that decision; scientifically speaking.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) preceded scientists to this process for he taught us to pray istikhara before making any decision. We glorify God the Exalted and we wonder who told Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that the forelock becomes active while praying and when being humble in prayer and that such activity helps people make successful decisions? Amazingly, the holy Koran successfully connects prayer and humility on one hand and success on the other. Almighty Allah says in the holy Koran (meaning), “The believers must (eventually) win through those who humble themselves in their prayers.” (Sura Mu’minun, ayat 1-2).

Mothers & Smoking

According to a recent study, scientists have asserted that the fetus of smoking mothers is negatively affected and that such impact lasts until the child grows up and is inclined to accept this bad habit and tends to take up smoking later. It is well known, medically speaking, that the smoking of expectant mothers has a negative impact on the fetus and causes a range of damage. Even when mothers smoke while being close to their children, their children are impacted by the smoke and may become smokers when they grow up. Of course, this does not apply to all children but to the overwhelming majority.

According to another study that was conducted at the University of Bristol, it has been found that smoking and alcohol are worse than illegal drugs. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was therefore merciful to us when he taught us that we should not harm ourselves for he said, “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” God the Exalted also wants to do us good when he says in the holy Koran (meaning), “And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; but do good; for Allah loves those who do good.” (Sura Al-Baqarah, ayah 195).

The Miracle of the Human Fist

According to a scientific study conducted by the University of Utah, scientists discovered that the design of human hand is different from that of any other animal. Professor David Carrier says that there are many possibilities for the development of human hands (according to the theory of development). If we contemplate all creatures, we will find that man is the only creature who is distinguished by a fist that suits all the tasks he requires while monkeys for instance can only do limited tasks. Scientists, therefore, believe that man is distinguished from any other creatures by many features. Such features make man contravene the theory of development and although development cannot be denied in the world of organisms, man, however, was created differently for God the Almighty breathed into man of his spirit and gave him the ability to learn and speak. God the Exalted says in the holy Koran (meaning), “We have indeed created man in the best of moulds” (Sura At-Tin, ayah 4).

The Heart Ponders!

Scientists discovered that the human heart has more than 40,000 neurons that play a significant role in thinking, understanding, behaving and other metal processes. This fact was pointed out in the Holy Koran, as God says (meaning), “Have they not travelled in the land, so that their hearts may thus learn wisdom and their ears may thus learn to hear? For indeed it is not the eyes that grow blind, but the hearts, which are within the bosoms, that grow blind.” (Sura Al-Hajj, ayah 46).

In this ayah we see a significant reference to the role of the heart in learning and comprehension and this is what exactly scientists say.

Look at the bones, how we bring them together

Scientists say that an embryo is created from anovum fertilized by a sperm, and, after weeks of growth, bones start to be formed and flesh starts to cover bones after that. Scientists confirm that it is impossible for flesh to precede bones in the creation process.

Hence God the Almighty says (meaning), “Look at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh.” (Sura Al-Baqarah, ayah 259).

Who told our illiterate Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) this medical fact and what made him be so sure of that scientific information to state it in the Koran?

The doer is Almighty Allah the creator of everything, who says about Himself (meaning): “So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.” (Sura Al-Mu’minun, ayah 14).
