Children and instinct

Biologists have discovered that infants are born with pre-equipped brains with specific thoughts that tell them that Allah is the Creator of this universe and that everything has a cause and that there is only one God. This is revealed in the following Koranic ayah:

“So set thou thy face

Steadily and truly to the faith:

(Establish) Allah's handiwork according

To the pattern on which

He has made mankind:

No change (let there be)

In the work (wrought)

By Allah: that is

The standard religion

But most among mankind

Understand not.”

(Sura Ar-Rum, ayah 30)

The exact Arabic equivalence for the word pattern is fitrah, instinct.

Natural suckling

The scientist discovered recently that a child's complete nutrition is from his mother's milk, and is not completed unless the mother has suckled her child for two complete years! The World Health Organization stated this fact in the twenty-first century. A modern new medical conference concluded that the ideal period of suckling is two years, because in this age a child is in urgent need of immunity elements to develop his immunity system and these elements are only found in mother's milk. The Almighty Allah said in the Koran fourteen centuries ago (meaning), “Mothers shall give suck to their children for two whole years, that is for those who desire to complete the terms of suckling.” (Sura Al-Baqarah, ayah 233).

Smile

Scientists discovered that a smile carries and transmits a strong message that could influence the subconscious mind of man! And, the smile is a gift that can be offered to others for several reasons.

A smile grants a pleasure to the hearts of others. This is a sort of gift, and rather it could be one of the most important types of gifts.

The smile easily transmits the information to others.

A nice smile can keep the atmosphere of tension away; and this is what money cannot do. We find that a smile is more important than money. So, the least we can offer to others in charity is a smile.

Smiling and healing: Many doctors noticed that a smile has an effect on the healing process. Some researchers began by stating that the doctor's smile is part of the therapy! So, when you offer your friend a smile, or when you offer your wife, or your neighbor a smile, you will be offering them a free healing prescription without you feeling it. This is a type of gift.

For these and other reasons, the smile is a type of giving and charitable act and generosity. Do you know now why the Prophet of Mercy (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “And smiling at your brother is charity!”

Children learn while sleeping

A recent study has found that children right from the first day after being born have a great capacity to learn especially while sleeping since it’s been discovered that the brain of children transmits electromagnetic waves as a reaction to the information they hear. Since children spend most of the time sleeping, scientists recommend making use of this time to teach children. Scientists add that the brain of new born babies has around 100 billion pre-programmed neurological cells to pick up and accurately analyse information. Scientists consider this phenomenon as a miracle of nature, but the truth is that it is Almighty Allah who created man and made sleeping a sign and a miracle. God, the exalted says in the holy Koran (meaning), “And among His signs is the sleep that you take by night and by day, and the quest that you (make for livelihood) out of His bounty: verily in that are signs for those who hearken.” (Sura Ar-Rum, ayah 23).

Parents and Child Rearing

According to a scientific study conducted by the University of Calgary’s Hotchkiss Brain institute, Canada, living with one’s parents during the early years of a child’s life causes the growth of additional brain cells for children. The study confirms that living with parents during childhood helps get a better memory and enhances homework for boys and helps girls improve their social and coordinating abilities.

Researchers have also affirmed that children who live with their parents are better taken care of and more stable and they are also less highly to suffer from anxiety during the early years of their lives. Researchers also say that this explains the increase in the growth of brain cells for boys and girls, i.e. boys continue to have more grey matter while girls have more white matter. Hence, are not parents worthy of being appreciated and thanked and should not children pray to Almighty Allah to bless their parents and have mercy on them for this favour. Almighty Allah says in the holy Koran (meaning), “And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say, ‘My Lord! bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.’ ” (Sura Al-Isra, ayah 24).

Humans Can Learn to “See” With Sound

With just a click of the tongue, anyone can learn to “see” with their ears, according to a new study of human echolocation.

Several animals, such as bats, dolphins, whales, and some shrews, are known to use echolocation - sound waves bounced off nearby objects - to sense what’s around them.

Inspired by a blind man who also navigates using sound, a team of Spanish scientists has found evidence that suggests most humans can learn to echolocate.

The team also confirmed that the so-called palate clicks - a sharp click made by depressing the tip of the tongue against the roof of the mouth - is the most effective noise for people to use.

 Sound Training

Daniel Kish, executive director of World Access for the Blind in Huntington Beach, California, was born blind. He taught himself to “see” using palate clicks when he was a small child.

Kish is able to mountain bike, hike in the wilderness, and play ball games without traditional aids.

To better understand Kish’s skill, Juan Antonio Martínez and his colleagues at the University of Alcalá in Madrid trained ten sighted students to echolocate.

“It was very difficult to persuade some people to take part in the experiments, because most [of our] colleagues though that our idea was absurd,” Martínez said.

The students were asked to close their eyes and make sounds until they could tell whether any objects were nearby.

Koranic signs

The Holy Koran refers to the importance of “hearing”. So, in many verses we find that hearing precedes “sight”. Let us see this verse, in which Almighty Allah says (meaning), “And Allah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers knowing nothing, and gave you hearing and sight and hearts that haply you might give thanks.” (Sura An-Nahl, ayah 78).
